Day 8 Chemical toilets

Squat thrusts on the road

In our en-suite mobile home we have a toilet and integrated shower next to the kitchen. But the chemical toilet is full. Even if it's at the back of the campervan we can't drive fast enough to get rid of the smell. It smells like a boiling pot of putrescent faeces. Think about all those poor truckers behind us! And we have to prepare our food, hot-coco and eat next to it. Since Bruges we have been trying to empty it. It requires a special sanitary dump as it is toxic. We've asked a few motor home owners. In Belgium they said we could dump it in Germany and in Germany they said we would find somewhere in Austria.

Somewhere in Southern German a car service attendant explains In a mix of German and English that there are camping sites two exits further down the motorway where we should be able to dump the toilet contents. Will they accept non-German waste products in a German dump? This is Europe after all. If we tell the camping site owners its Belgium chocolate and Frituur they'll probably send us to Austria to dump it. So we'll pretend its muchos fantastische knockwurst!

We really have to get rid of it Mariya is getting headaches. Raphael sleeps too much for comfort and I think my nose is blocked.

Toiletische stickische ist sehr kaputt!

We come off the motorway to empty the toilet. We had agreed to stay on the motorway because manoeuvring a 9 metre slug in the streets of a small town is impossible. We go against our principles and drive down 12% gradient road (steep!) to a camping site in Lengfurt. But I am not confident we can make it back up the hill....

The camp site owner is very kind and lets us empty the chemical toilet for free. The camp site is immaculate. He tries to help us connect the gas for heating but he doesn't succeed. He recommends another place but we get lost. Where's the Tomtom when you need it?

Luckily enough we find a new road to get back on the motorway that doesn't involve gradients. Osterreich, wir kommen!
